James Martin

James Martin is a commercial photographer focused on consumer technology based, and is the Managing Editor of Photography at CNET and Red Ventures.

Based in San Francisco, California, he has worked on assignment in Mexico, Greece, India, Angola, Rwanda, South Africa, Japan, and Brazil and been published in publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, CBS News, CNN, Bloomberg News, Yahoo News, Columbia Journalism Review, and countless others.

At CNET, he has photographed the leaders of the technology industry, including Apple’s Steve Jobs and Tim Cook, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Google’s Sundar Pichai. His photos also capture technology’s impact on society – from the widening wealth gap in San Francisco, to the European refugee crisis and Rwanda’s efforts to improve health care.

He’s also used his camera to explore less weighty topics. He was among the first photographers, anywhere, to explore the capabilities of  iPhone 12 Pro Max prior to its release and iPhone 12 Pro. He took CNET readers inside the Tesla factory and flew with the Blue Angels.

From the technology pioneers of Google and Facebook, to the most groundbreaking launches at Apple and NASA, his is a dream job for any documentary photography and journalist with a love for technology.

Exhibited widely, syndicated and reprinted thousands of times over the years, James has extensively photographed the people and places behind the technology changing our world, bring their stories, ideas, and brands to life.
